"The availability of the 44-DA facilitates the transformation of an ordinary home theater into an extraordinary listening experience for the custom installer and home theater enthusiast alike. The 44-DA represents the next step forward in delivering a truly believable sonic theater experience in the home. I am proud that Atlantic's advanced engineering--working closely with Dolby--has produced this revolutionary loudspeaker," commented Peter Tribeman, President and founder of Atlantic Technology.
The 44-DA can be mounted on top of Atlantic's existing 4400LR speaker units for a seamless "one piece" look. Likewise, the module can also be added to other speakers as well, and can be used by itself as a standalone Atmos elevation speaker. The module measures 5 ½ x 8 3/8 x 9 ½" and features a ¼" woofer and 1" silk dome tweeter. Designed in a top firing concentric driver array, the speaker reflects sound off of the ceiling at a specially determined angle in order to achieve a convincing overhead audio effect.
Dolby Atmos home theater technology uses object-based mixing to expand audio design beyond the traditional limitations of channel-based systems, and includes the addition of overhead sound. The Atlantic Technology 44-DA speakers will be available in the 4th quarter of 2014 for a suggested retail price of $499 per pair. The 4400LR THX Certified home theater speakers are currently available for $1,100 per pair.
