ZigBee is one of the most exciting names in remote control technology. ZigBee and other members of the ZigBee Alliance are trying to pave the way for two way communication between your remote and your home theater components.
The next step was taken today with the public release of the new home automation and remote control standards. By allowing public access, smaller companies and crafty individuals are able to work with the protocols to get their products and ideas up to spec.
The home automation standard is focused on adding support for even more devices like home security systems, doorbells, power outlets, motorized window shades and other mechanical devices. The remote control standard aims to improve battery life, allow for more flexible control for devices in separate rooms and of course, add two way communication between the devices.
