Onkyo's PA-MC5500 is a nine channel THX Ultra2 Plus certified amplifier that packs plenty of power.  Inside the monolithic chassis you'll find an analog power amplifier rated to 150 watts per channel at 8 ohms and up to 400 watts into 3 ohms.

Powering that amplifier is a huge power supply containing a toroidal transformer and a pair of 22,000 µF capacitors.  Onkyo even packed in custom output transistors arrange in a push-pull configuration to ensure instantaneous current capability.

To eliminate distortion, the MC5500 is equipped with a three stage inverted Darlington circuit and professional level inputs.  It's designed as the perfect companion for the PR-SC5508 preamplifier/processor, and includes nine balanced line-level XLR inputs for the optimal connection. You'll be able to pick up the PA-MC5500 for $1,699 when it launches this September.

But I would like an equivalent amp with say 5.1 to 7.1 channels for under $1K.
If we keep adding speakers there will not be enough room for the furniture. :-)

I have to agree, I would really love to see Onkyo introduce a 7 channel version
of this amplifier. Say, 150 watts, all channels driven into 8ohms, and, 225
watts, all channels driven into 4ohms. Along with a great price ! A smaller and
cheaper version of the PR-SC5508 would be welcomed also ! ! ! C'mon Onkyo, pay
attention !

This amp is perfect for me as I have the 1007. This is how my setup is done and
only seven speakers, but using all 9 channels.

Two main bi-amped, center, two
surrounds, and two heights.
