Yonhap News, LG is planning to suspend its plasma production in the near future. The decision is said to be a result of low consumer demand for the technology.
An exact date for the end of LG's plasma manufacturing has not been decided, but the company is currently conducting internal studies to determine an appropriate timetable. An official announcement is expected soon. Despite offering many picture quality benefits over traditional LCD tech, plasma panels have failed to garner the market share required to stay in the game. LG's exit from the business follows similar decisions from Panasonic and Samsung. This will leave China's Changhong Electric Co. as the only major company still producing plasma panels.
