When it comes to overindulgent commercial installations, the only country that can hold a candle to the gool ol' US of A is Japan. For example, last year in Japan there was a full life-size Gundam robot replica that measured over 59 feet in height, and shot out light and mist.
Last week, the Kansai airport installed the world's largest curved plasma display. The diagonal measurement comes in at 200 inches. It's set up sideways, so that the four meter length runs vertically, while the three meter width runs horizontally.
Why it's curved and why it's sideways are both mysteries. It seems like it'd be a lot more useful if it were traditionally oriented and wall mounted, but there's something to be said for the strange curved look.
