With only a handfull of high resolution DVD-Audio titles currently on the market, two questions that we are asked frequently at AudioRevolution.com are, “Where can I purchase these DVD-Audio discs and how much do they cost?”
Warner Music Group has created a website that will be of great interest to those of you who are stepping into this eagerly anticipated format. At DVDaudiopreview.com (see the link at the end of this article) they have provided a list of 16 different retail outlets that carry Warner Music Group’s DVD-Audio titles. Tower Records, Virgin Megastore, Borders and The Wiz are a few of the larger chains where customers can purchase these discs. The site also provides more information and release dates for upcoming titles.
Online retailer Amazon.com carries the discs as well, but currently it can be tricky to find them using their search function. Rather than look up a specific title, it is better to simply type DVD-Audio into the search window and then click on the “See all 15 results in DVD…” link.
The prices of the discs obviously vary from retailer to retailer. On Amazon.com, the average sale price for the discs is $17.48, with some as low as $15.98 and others as high as $21.22. This is very competitive with the price of standard CDs and as more titles are released, there is a possibility that the prices could even come down more as more record labels back the format.
