Sooloos Lowers Price Barrier to Ensemble Music Management System  Print E-mail

The music management game has just gotten a little bit cheaper.  Sooloos announces that they have lowered the price barrier of their Ensemble music server.  Of course when they say lower it still means a whopping $7,900.

What do you get for $7900 bucks?  You get a 17-inch touchscreen control panel, the Sooloos Control:One.  And, you get a 1 TB storage device with optical drive and USB port for importing tunes.

The system is compatible with Crestron remotes and the Apple iPod touch and iPhone.  The server Ensemble can theoretically hold 2,400 full albums encoded with FLAC lossless audio codec.  MP3 is also supported.  The server can send signal to up to four zones in your house.

The management system is PC based.

Dan  - High end manufacturers still don't get it...   |2010-04-09 09:22:30
Trade mags like "Stereophile" and "Absolute Sound" often lament
the condition of most consumer level music systems as not being able to
reproduce the fine nuances of LP's and CD's; commenting that "if only"
systems were better we would be able to convert the younger gen of listeners to
higher quality and better written selections; and (horrors!) actually make them
appreciate the great classical/romantic composers (Brahms, Beethoven, et.
al).

Trouble is, high end manufacturers (like Meridian, Krell,
Conrad-Johnson, Wilson Audio, etc.) continue to market components that are
outrageously priced and only affordable to well-heeled consumers; those with
massive checking/investment accounts that never have to worry about collection
calls from creditors. These high end folks just don't get it; in today's economy
you cannot ask exhorbitant pricing on equipment and somehow expect to make any
kind of profit; or, for that matter, hope to lure in curious/interested
consumers who may actually want to hear decent sound for a change - the kids may
even respond! What a novel idea!
