Sony’s New Walkman MP3 Player Lineup Announced  Print E-mail

Those from a certain generation will remember fondly the memory of sitting by the radio with a tape recorder in order to capture that one song you just had to have.  You may be glad to know that, thanks to Sony’s new Walkman line, those days need not die yet.

The new S series Walkman models will feature not only voice recording, but the option to record music from a built in FM tuner.  With a storage size of 16GB on the high end and 8GB on the low end, this surprisingly economical line of MP3 players may be a strong contender this holiday season.

Sony also hopes to make listening to music a more social experience by introducing a pair of built in speakers to the S series.  Around 17 hours of music can be played through the speakers on a single charge of the battery, though the question of audio quality is certainly a concern.  Hitting stores in September, the S series can be had for around $110 for the 8GB model and $130 for the 16GB in colors of red, black and pink.

The Sony S-Series Walkman is a solid entry-level MP3 player thanks to its
ultra-affordable price tag, easy-to-use design, excellent performance, and fair
smattering of features--but those who are looking to upgrade from the previous
generation will not be impressed.
