The Blacknote line of digital media players from Akamai Audio is expanding.  Two new tube-equipped players will be joining the lineup. The DSS30 Digital Static Source (SRP: $ 4,400; solid state SRP: $2,876) can play a variety of formats stored on USB sticks, SD memory cards and on the PC through an Ethernet connection.

Both versions of the DSS30 come with a balanced output, but there will be versions without this output or the Ethernet connection retailing for $1,900 (tube) and $1,500 (solid state). Akamai has plans to expand the DSS line further by adding new products in late 2009 and in 2010.  The Blacknote line currently houses CD players and SACD players.  Akamai products are available in North America from its distributor, Koetsu USA.
