Antelope Announces the Zodiac Gold DAC for iPad

It’s common knowledge, at least among people that care about such things, that portable devices like MP3 players, phones and tablets are more than a little lacking when it comes to audio quality. Compressed audio can only give you so much quality, after all. If you’re really that attached to playing music from your iPad through an otherwise impressive speaker system, Antelope has a solution – the $3,900 Zodiac Gold iPad DAC.

The Zodiac is a 384kHz converter – one of few on the market. It’s not only a DAC, but a pre-amp and headphone amp too, designed to give your sound an extra boost before it goes through those nice speakers or headphones. Antelope hasn’t said anything about bringing the Zodiac Gold to the US yet, but it’s currently available overseas for a price of 3,000 euros, or around $3,900.
