Barret, co founder of Pink Floyd has died at the age of 60. Barret
founded Pink Floyd with fellow members Roger Waters, Nick Mason, and
Richard Wright. He left the band and music industry in the early stages
to live reclusively.
Barret wrote many of first hits for Pink Floyd including the band’s 1967 album “The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn”, as well as their first hits “Arnold Layne” and “See Emily Play”. After leaving the band Barret released two solo albums, “The Madcap Laughs” and “Barret”, both in 1970. Pink Floyd’s album “Wish You Were Here” was dedicated to Barret. Barret was hugely influential in British psychedelic music. Many artists have credited him including David Bowie. Barret suffered form mental problems as well as drug use in his early career. He began to demonstrate erratic behavior. He left the band in 1968 and was replaced by David Gilmour who had joined the band earlier in the year.
