LimeWire version 1.7 is now available at Limewire.com for a free download for Mac, Windows, Linux and many other operating systems. LimeWire is an advanced file-sharing application.
Unlike Napster, LimeWire works on the Guntella network which is a peer to peer file sharing as opposed to Napster which had its own servers.
LimeWire Version 1.7 claims the following improvements over version 1.6:
• Ability to chat with other LimeWire users
• Major speed increase (especially on Mac)
• Improved download performance
• Faster Auto-connect
• New options screen
As always, LimeWire also offers these great features:
• Smart downloading
• Gnutella groups based on content and region
• Integrated content library
• Partial files remain in incomplete directory if download fails
• Freeloader suppression and healthy network features
In a quick glance at the new feature sets of LimeWire v1.7, there seems to be many new goodies which is nice considering how much you are paying for the software and the files – which is zero. Downloads are still slow in comparison to Napster despite my new T1 connection. Busy links are automatically avoided in your searches which is very useful for those looking to share anything.
Until the music community gets their heads out of their collective asses and offers a legal, pay per download service that make sense and had quick, reliable file sharing, LimeWire seems to be the choice of a new generation, much like Pepsi.
