Vans Warped Tour, North America's longest-running festival concert tour, has just announced the summer 2002 line up. Scheduled to perform are Warped Tour veterans Bad Religion, Flogging Molly, Good Charlotte, Lagwagon, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, MXPX, New Found Glory, No Use for a Name, NOFX and Reel Big Fish, as well as up-and-comers Alkaline Trio, Causualities, Morgan Heritage, Ozma, Quarashi, SOMETHING CORPORATE, The Used, Thrice and Thursday.
A summer concert festival aimed at Gen X and Gen Y wouldn’t be complete without some major corporate sponsorships and this year’s Warped Tour is no exception.
Sony Computer Entertainment America's PlayStation 2 "I'm With The Band" promotion will take place at most of the 48 tour stops, with local radio stations hosting contests to select winners who will receive VIP treatment at the concert with a grand prize winner receiving a PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system. These selected winners will receive VIP credentials to view their favorite band from the side of the stage. Sony Computer Entertainment America will also host an interactive tent with PlayStation 2 computer entertainment systems to entertain concert-goers.
Other sponsors include Motorola , Yoo-hoo Chocolate Drink, truthSM, AMP Energy Drink from Mountain Dew, Transworld Media and Dibz.
Just in case the bands and sponsors booths aren’t enough to hold the short attention span of young punk rockers around the world, Warped Tour 02 will feature several “other” things to do besides mosh in the pit such as:
The Pirate Zone: A water-themed area that will have fun interactive activities for concert-goers, including a giant slip 'n slide, waterized bungee jump, misting tent, dunk tank with your favorite musician or athlete, super soaker competitions and more.
Ladies Lounge: Returning for its fifth year, the Ladies Lounge will once again feature autograph sessions with female athletes, in addition to hosting non-profit organizations and sponsors dedicated to supporting young women.
Code of the Cutz: Project B-girl: Featuring some of the world's top female DJs performing in an interactive atmosphere, DJ's Addverse and Prima will conduct "how to scratch" clinics for young women, while breakdancers and graffiti artists contribute to the performance space as well.
Reverse Daycare: A tented, air-conditioned area where kids can drop off their parents while they cruise the action of the festival. Parents will be able to get away from the heat and noise, enjoy cold drinks and discuss the triumphs of parenthood as their kid's rock out to the music and activities.
Vans Warped Tour Treasure Hunt: Audience participants will have the opportunity to pick up a Warped Treasure Hunt map at a sponsor booth where they'll be encouraged to collect scavenger hunt items throughout the day, competing with others to win prizes.
Ernie Ball Stage: The Ernie Ball Battle Of The Bands offers bands from across the country an opportunity to compete for various prizes such as: spots on the Ernie Ball stage at the Vans Warped Tour, gear and instruments, as well as recording contracts.
Extreme Drumming: WFD Extreme Sport Drumming, a World X-Sport Drumming Event, who's mission is to find the world's fastest drummer will be a featured event at the Vans Warped Tour '02. WFD will be an interactive event where the tour's drummers will set daily bench-mark runs (scores) and the crowd as well as area speed drummers will have the opportunity to beat their favorite Vans Warped Tour drummer and win prizes including a MAPEX drum set, their name on Promark sticks, an Axis double pedal, Remo heads and much more.
