Van Halen To Tour This Summer Sammy Hagar As The Frontman Print E-mail
Friday, 26 March 2004
After years of speculation about a Van Halen reunion tour, the rumors have finally been put to rest as Van Halen has officially announced 28 upcoming concert dates across the United States this summer on their website www.van-halen.com. A new publicity photo on the site featuring Sammy Hagar with Michael Anthony, Eddie and Alex Van Halen confirms that the band has chosen Hagar over other former frontmen Diamond David Lee Roth and Gary Cherone. Hagar appeared on the Howard Stern show today and further confirmed the tour rumors and said that the bad blood between him and the Van Halen brothers is over and he is enthusiastic about being chosen to be back in the band. According to Hagar, none of the songs that the band originally wrote and performed while David Lee Roth was in the band will be performed on the tour. Hagar and original Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth befriended each other in 2002 for a co-headlining tour however, tempers and egos quickly flared and the tour was surrounded by much controversy. It was a chance for fans to get to hear Van Halen and “Van Hagar” songs performed live, but now with the 2004 tour, air guitarists will get to play along with Eddie Van Halen for the first time since their 1998 tour for Van Halen III with former Extreme front man Gary Cherone.

There has been no official word as to any future recording plans for the newly reformed Van Hagar lineup. Warner Bros. Records will be releasing "It's About Time," a newly recorded Van Halen track featuring Hagar from the upcoming, best of Van Halen album scheduled for release this June.

A long standing rumor that AudioRevolution.com has reported on in months past is that the brothers Van Halen have a good part of a studio album completed with David Lee Roth. No one knows if the songs will be rewritten and or rerecorded. In fact Van Halen officially has no record deal at this time. Needless to say they will not have too hard of a time getting a major label to distribute whatever studio record they might chose to make in the future.
