Bruce
Springsteen, once rumored to be interested in running for a Senatorial
seat in New Jersey as a Republican, will be involved in a large scale
series of concerts in battleground states with the intention of helping
get presidential hopeful, John Kerry elected. Reportedly there will be
more than 20 acts including Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, The Dixie
Chicks and Pearl Jam slated to perform.
Shows will begin on October 1, 2004 and will be located in states that are not yet decided including Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Ohio, Michigan, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin. The goal of the shows are blatantly partisan and are designed the rally the music industry to help a Democratic candidate much like many religious organizations successfully rally voters to get out for Republicans. Polls show the riff between the left and the right as definitive as ever. The question is can celebrity endorsements or performances sway voters opinions? If so, president Bush might want to make sure Arnold Schwarzenegger’s schedule is clear this fall. In the case most people have made up their minds, a byproduct of these politically motivated events is there will be some pretty fantastic concerts going on – possibly in a city near you. |
