Pink Floyd To Reunite Print E-mail

Reunited and it feels so good.

This Live 8 show really is capturing the feeling of the Live Aid shows I watched in Philadelphia as a kid. Today one of rock’s most popular, innovative, successful and creative bands, Pink Floyd including Roger Waters, agreed to put years of animosity behind them to reunite for the Live 8 show to benefit Africa. Floyd’s studio albums are the standard for the Concept Album more than 30 years after the release of the amazingly successful Dark Side of the Moon. Floyd was able to do what few rock super groups were able to do by switching their frontman and creative force multiple times. First from Syd Barrett to Roger Waters and then from Waters to guitarist David Gilmour. The Roger Waters era of Pink Floyd is considered to be their best, most time-tested music and now Waters is back to play with a band whose live shows are rock and roll legend.

With Floyd on the bill, I wonder if any of the promoters get the itch to try to mend some of rock and roll’s most damaged relationships. Considering the nature of the show and what it benefits, would Genesis reunite for one night? Would Van Halen do a show with Dave one more time? They did two cuts with him for their best of album and reportedly have most of a studio album in the can with Dave on vocals.

Just for reuniting Pink Floyd, I am not only going to watch the show – I am going to donate some money. Considering the entertainment and the cause, perhaps you will too.
