The Doors step onto the big stage Friday, February 7, 2003 at Universal Amphitheater with new vocalist Ian Astbury, former Cult front man, and drummer Stewart Copeland of the Police. The rockers are appearing under the name “The Doors, 21st Century.”
Much skepticism has surfaced especially with former band member John Densmore who recently filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court charging breach of contract, trademark infringement and unfair competition against Manzarek and Krieger. Densmore states that they cannot be the Doors or use the Doors logo.
Original members Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger believe that Morrison would have wanted this band to continue and would be happy about the Doors reunion.
Doors members have received criticism in regards to Astbury’s uncanny resemblance to Morrison. However, Astbury says it was not intentional and says he is no way trying to imitate or take Morrison’s place.
