Metallica's Lead Singer Injured - Summer Tour In Jeopardy?  Print E-mail

Metallica’s lead singer and rhythm guitarist James Hetfield recently injured himself in a jet skiing accident near Atlanta. Hetfield was unable to perform last Friday at the Georgia Dome, Saturday in Sparta, Kentucky and Sunday in Dallas.

To keep Metallica from being completely sidelined, Kid Rock and his guitarist, Kenny Olsen, as well as Korn’s guitarist, Head, and Darren Malakian of System of a Down all took turns playing rhythm guitar in place of the injured Hetfield.

Kid Rock who recently sampled the Metallica track "Sad But True" for his new single "American Bad-Ass" handled the lead vocal duties on "Sad But True" and the Bob Seger cover song "Turn The Page." Jason Newstead, Metallica’s bassist, sang the rest of the songs in the set.

To compensate for Metallica’s shorter-than-usual set, Korn and Kid Rock each played additional sets. Metallica is planning on returning at a later date to play free shows in these cities for fans that save their Summer Sanitarium ticket stubs.
