There will be a little something for everyone at the Closing Ceremony of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. The list of musical acts scheduled to perform live includes Christina Aguilera, Bon Jovi, Charlotte Church, Harry Connick, Jr., Gloria Estefan, Josh Groban, Earth, Wind & Fire, Moby, ‘NSYNC, Dianne Reeves and tap dancer Savion Glover.
Beginning at 7:00 PM Mountain Time on Sunday, February 24, 2002, the Closing Ceremony, broadcast live throughout 160 countries worldwide, will also feature past Olympic medalists Kurt Browning, Dorothy Hamill, Scott Hamilton, Ilia Kulik, Rene Roca, Gorsha Sur, Katarina Witt and Christina Yamaguchi.
In following the theme of the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games of "Light the Fire Within," a fireworks spectacular is planned, beginning at Rice-Eccles Olympic Stadium and literally spreading throughout the entire city of Salt Lake. Closing Ceremony executive producer Don Mischer promises "the largest ultra-violet light production number ever," turning the stadium into one large black-light area. A portion of the program will also include an acknowledgement to the city of Torino, Italy that will host the 2006 Olympic Winter Games.
In addition to the all-star cast, Closing Ceremony performers will also include 2500 dancers, singers, acrobats and gymnasts, as well as 1250 volunteers, most of which are from the Salt Lake City area.
