|Vizio Sued By Sony, Samsung and others over MPG2 Rights|

Vizio, best known for selling HDTVs at impossibly low prices in warehouse channels like Wal-Mart and Costco, has made a lot of noise in a world that used to be dominated by the likes of Sony, Pioneer and Mitsubishi.
Vizio, in a statement released today, says that the global companies that they have making their HDTVs that they design in California have the licenses needed to be in compliance and that they expect full support from their partners.
Realistically, this suit is a wake up call for the multi-billion dollar Vizio that they have arrived in the big leagues of video where every I is dotted and every T is crossed. No longer will Vizio be able to operate under the radar screen even if this suit is simply based on a technicality. As in most of these disputes – the solution is likely to be hashed out in a settlement as Vizio has carved out a nice niche in the consumer electronics marketplace that they are not likely to give back to those who are suing them. Vizio says the suit will not affect their sales adversely. Its possible, the extra publicity will help build their brand even bigger than it is today.
