Vizio Goes Above and Beyond With New XVT Pro Series Print E-mail
Tuesday, 05 January 2010
ImageIn the beginning Vizio had barebone HDTVs, but now they are loaded with features, making them strong contenders with more recognizable brands such as Samsung and Pioneer.  The big news in this new lineup is the introduction of a 72-inch LCD.  That is the biggest diagonal to date for an LCD panel. Also available are 58, 55 and 47-inch models.  Another big announcement in the lineup is the motionflow technology.  It seems like just yesterday it was a huge deal for an LCD to have 120Hz Motionflow technology.  Shortly thereafter, 240Hz was introduced.  These Vizio models now have a 480Hz Smooth Motion technology.  While it may be overkill, we do love to see new specs.

Also noteworthy is the 3D ability of these HDTVs.  While the technology is not standard yet, it is good to see manufacturers taking an early adoption stance.  The new XVT Pro Series also includes an upgrade in the number of control zones for LED precision lighting control.  These HDTVs also include the first integrated wireless HDMI adapter.  The XVT Pro Series is capable of receiving 1080p HDMI signals wirelessly when the source player is equipped with a Vizio adapter (sold separately).  This technology works on a 60GHz band to prevent interference with other wireless components.

The XVT Pro Series comes with the new SRS StudioSound HD technology.  This provides the best surround sound immersion experience from TV speakers to date.  And let’s not forget, the HDTVs are also wireless Internet capable.

Finally, Vizio is releasing a 58-inch, cinema wide display.  This is probably the first HDTV that is created for 2.35:1 aspect ratio content.  While I like the idea, I’m not sure it is going to work for consumers.  While Blu-rays and DVDs may fill the screen, everything else is going to have sidebox pillars.  Not good.  Nevertheless, the 58-inch HDTV has a 2560 x 1080 resolution or 21:9 aspect ratio.
