The forecast also includes record-breaking numbers: an expected 29.8 million HDTV sets will be sold in the US in 2009, compared with 26.8 million in 2008. The growing numbers are spurred by events like the Super Bowl, but the 50% average drop in wholesale price of an HDTV set over the past 4 years is also a major factor.
All types of digital TV sets are projected to increase their sales this year, even amid a faltering economy. LCD TVs will clock in with 26.8 million sales, the largest display type segment by far, and plasma TVs will grab 10% of the market.
