Sharp Display Products Corp. has been announced as the company in which the partnership between Sony and Sharp will take shape. Sony and Sharp have created this joint venture in order to share their technologies and distribution methods for LCD TVs.
Sharp will own two thirds of this new company, and Sony will own the other third. It will launch on April 1st, but will take some time to transform into the shape that the companies envision due to the recession. They have acknowledged that it likely won’t be active until March of 2010. Both companies have cut back on their LCD production – Sony by cutting 16,000 jobs, and Sharp by reducing overall LCD production by ten percent.
