A total of five new LCD televisions were announced today by Runco. Ranging from 42 inches to 65 inches, the new televisions add to Runco’s already established Crystal Portfolio series of LCDs. All of Runco’s new displays offer four HDMI inputs, and a 120Hz refresh rate. Runco’s own Vivix video processing is also present in each display.
The new displays come in two different flavors. The CX-42HD and CX-55HD are Runco’s standard HDTVs, while the CX-OPAL42, CX-OPAL55 and CX-OPAL65 offer Runco’s own Optical Path Alignment (OPAL) technology. Using a proprietary panel application, Runco says that OPAL decreases glare and image diffusion from ambient light sources making for a sharper, clearer picture.
Both the CX-42HD and CX-OPAL42 feature a 4,000:1 contrast ratio and a response time of less than four milliseconds. The 55” models step it up a notch by offering a 5,000:1 contrast ratio, but a slower 5ms response time. Runco’s CX-OPAL65 boasts a response time of under 4ms, and a stated contrast ratio of “greater than 2,000:1.”
Of course, Runco is quick to point out that these contrast ratio measurements are taken in a pitch black room. They state that in an ambient light environment, the OPAL series of LCDs will have a contrast ratio of up to three times that of a normal display.
