With the increasing burden on energy resources, it is great to see the home theater industry responding with solutions. Recently, Energy Star released their 3.0 requirements. Slowing but surely, manufacturers are designing components that not only meet the requirements, but exceed them as well.
Vizio is one such company that has announced that all of their LCD HDTVs that are currently shipping are Energy Star 3.0 compliant. Many of their small LCDs use less power than a 60-Watt light bulb. Vizio also announces their EcoHD LCD. The 32-inch EcoHD uses about 44 percent less energy a regular 32-inch LCD HDTV. It retails for $499. Now all that needs to happen is the disappearance of the standby lights on the front of components that suck up energy. --> I'm glad to see that the home theater industry and particularly an American-based brand like Vizio is taking the initiative to be eco-smart. More and more people are taking this approach and it can only help them in marketing terms too! I know that I'm interested in anything that will lower my electricity bill. I'm very happy with my Vizio SV420XVT, so I'll be curious to see the Eco Tv when it gets out to stores.
