Jetpacks, flying cars and OLED displays - they're all technologies that we've been promised for years but we've never seen. Or to be more accurate, we've seen them but we've never had a chance to buy them. OLEDs have been shown off for the last four Consumer Electronics Shows at the least and they've been impractical all the while. They're tiny and unreasonably expensive, which makes OLED sets interesting as a novelty but not as much more.
LG is solving at least one of those problems with the prototype OLED TV it's bringing to CES. At 55", this thing is huge - for an OLED at least. It's a nice size for a living room and LG says that the new manufacturing process used to create it brings the investment down significantly. There's no word on when we'll be seeing something like this at Best Buy but, as usual with OLED, we have high hopes. |
