Sony’s suit against Westinghouse Digital Electronics was settled last week by a Consent Judge in California. The settlement deal has made Westinghouse a licensee of Sony’s patented digital color TV and computer monitor technologies. The suit was filed in June of 2008.
Sony alleged that Westinghouse had infringed on their patents related to closed captioning, onscreen displays, HDMI and TV and computer screen technologies. The resolution of this suit includes Westinghouse’s acknowledgement of past infringement on Sony’s patents. Currently, Sony is also in a legal battle with Vizio on the same grounds as the case with Westinghouse. Sony is demanding compensation for patent infringement from the consumer electronics company.
