January's an exciting time for the consumer electronics industry. Just as CEDIA
brings out the best from high-end gear, CES is time for the entire industry to shine. It's a time for feature debuts, a look at future technology and best of all, new product announcements.
Samsung has promised a big announcement in January about TVs using Google TV software. No further details have been given, but introducing an option for those that want a set larger than Sony's biggest - 42 inches - would be a great start. Strangely, Samsung has said nothing about the possibility of a Blu-ray player packing Google TV technology, which seems like a no-brainer for the company. One interesting note is that Samsung apparently hasn't settled on using an Intel chip for its new sets, but is open to the idea. That could mean that Google TV is opening up on hardware restrictions already or Samsung could be planning something entirely different. |
