Philips will begin full production of OLEDs in 2010, according to a report by DisplaySearch. Currently, only Philips and OSRAM are in the preproduction stage, although others, such as Lumiotech and GE, are highlighted by DisplaySearch as likely companies to join the OLED market next.
It will likely take until 2012 before consumers see OLEDs proliferate the general marketplace. OLED technology allows for thin, backlight-free and power-saving displays for home theaters. This display technology has a greater viewing angle than LCD, extremely fast refresh time, and a 1:1 pixel ratio.
