Panasonic has taken the next step in the recent 3-D technology rage. The company has proposed a standard to the Blu-ray Disc Association for the storage and transfer of 3D imagery on Blu-ray discs. Those who have seen the various 3-D Blu-ray presentation now that a standard is needed.
As mentioned before, the CEA is readying a new HDMI version capable of
full 1080p 3-D images to be transferred. Panasonic is considering
proposing a standard for the new HDMI version as well. Theoretically,
the Association will begin discussion of the proposed standard by the
end of 2008, with commercial adoption not until 2010.
Panasonic made these move to try and prevent a standards war like that
of Blu-ray vs. HD DVD, as well as to head off the patent conflicts.
