"Many households are working with devices they already have to get the connected-TV experience," says Kurt Schref of Parks Associates. According to the latest study from Parks, there has been a significant increase in the amount of households using an HTPC or game console to get web or network based entertainment onto their screen. Between 2008 and 2009, there was a 36% increase in the amount of homes that had a PC hooked up to their televisions. It’s a large increase, but even more substantial was that 64% more homes have broadband connected game consoles. Whether using an Xbox 360, PS3, Wii or HTPC, consumers want streaming media and they’ll get it however they can. Schef believes that this is a clear indicator of demand for devices like the Boxee Box and an untapped market net capable TVs and Blu-ray players.
