"Manufacturers are underselling the Internet features of connected TVs," says Ross Rubin of the NPD Group, who recently revealed the results of a study detailing the usage of internet connected sets.

According to the NPD survey, a whopping 57 percent of people are using the internet functionality of their connected TVs to access Netflix.  That's ten percent more than access YouTube, and YouTube is a free service.

While 3D TV adaptation has been slow, the connected TV market now makes up 12 percent of all flat panel TV sales.  As such, Rubin believes that connected TVs will be distanced from 3D TVs in the market.

Rubin expects connected TV sales to keep increasing.  As he puts it, "broadband features unlock worlds of on-demand content; manufacturers should provide the key by integrating Wi-Fi.
