Harman Sells Madrigal To Vidikron Spin-Off – Crystal View

This isn’t the first time Harman, the largest U.S. AV company, has given up on manufacturing home video projectors. Some AV industry analysts say they got screwed by JVC on digital projectors too badly to stay in that market and the CRT projector market (Runco, SIM2 Seleco, Accurate Imaging, Sony, Crystal View and many others) isn’t large enough to merit Madrigal’s R&D, marketing efforts and resourses. Thus they will sell the video portion of their high line products to Crystal View, the company that is picking up, in part, where Vidikron left off.

Crystal View intends to run the division as a separate operation, maintaining the Madrigal Imaging product and trademark, and fully supporting warranty and service on all new and previously sold Madrigal Imaging products.

Roger Fortier, Madrigal Imaging National Sales Manager stated, “Madrigal completed this transfer following a review of its 5-year business plan and the identification of a buyer with similar standards for customer service and distribution. We concluded that our short but successful venture into the video category created both opportunities as well as resource conflicts with the long- term goals for our core brands. Our customer base values the supply and distribution of Mark Levinson, Proceed, Revel and Audioaccess above our involvement with video products. Thus, this was a decision that made sense for both Madrigal and our customers."

Fortier continued, "One of the compelling reasons for this decision was Crystal View’s interest in continuing to distribute Madrigal Imaging products to the over 200 Madrigal dealers, as well as Crystal View’s commitment to customer service. We know of no other company that provides the level of technical service and field support that Crystal View does. They are capable of providing a smooth transition for our customers, and will contribute improvements in product and service over the long term. These were essential considerations for us at Madrigal."

Effective, September 24, 2002, Crystal View will begin selling the Madrigal Imaging MP-9 and MP-8 CRT projectors, and the MP-D1 single lens D-ILA projector. Gary Guidi, Crystal View President commented, ”Crystal View is focused on becoming the preeminent supplier of front projection home theater equipment. We are excited to add the excellent Madrigal Imaging projectors to our product line. And we will continue to supply, service and support all current Madrigal Imaging dealers.”
