The folks over at AUO have a vested interest in organic LED televisions. The same can be said of any television maker that's playing with the technology of course, but most don't seem to have the same take on the tech. While some companies have the "it's just around the corner" line down, AUO says that you probably shouldn't get too excited. They're expecting at least another few years before OLED televisions are even feasible for commercial use, let alone ready for the general public.
The reasoning behind the statement is nothing new. OLED panels are too expensive to make, too slow to produce, and aside from home theater fanatics, there just isn't enough demand to justify the prices. We're hoping AUO is wrong of course, but it looks like we'll have a pretty long wait before we start seeing OLED sets of a decent size in our living rooms.
