RBH Introduces Innovative In-Ceiling Speakers For Commercial Applications  Print E-mail

RBH Sound has just introduced two new high fidelity in-ceiling speakers for the commercial market. The A-615-70 and MC-615-70 borrow their build and sound quality from RBH’s residential in-ceiling speakers, but incorporate practical features required for commercial applications.

RBH is the first speaker manufacturer to obtain UL-listing for an in-ceiling speaker utilizing an aluminum driver design. According to RBH, the proprietary aluminum drivers allow for better power handling and better overall fidelity, two attributes often missing from commercial speakers. The audiophile-grade MC-615-70 borrows its 6 inch aluminum woofer and 1-inch aluminum tweeter from RBH’s popular residential MC Series speakers. For the budget-minded, the A-615-70 features a polygraphite 6 inch woofer mated with a 1 inch silk-dome tweeter.

Both models feature a design that allows them to be run in a typical 8-Ohm fashion, or selectable 70-volt operation. RBH designed a control knob (accessed from the front of the speaker) to allow for selectable 8-Ohm mode, or for 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32-watt taps for 70-volt operation, which allows great flexibility in both small and large commercial installations. In addition, the MC-615-70 features a tweeter level control (accessed from the front of the speaker) allowing the installer to choose from a standard-level setting or from -3dB or +3dB.

Safety is always a big issue in commercial installations where conditions can be unpredictable. RBH also designed an optional “O” shaped bracket to be used with the A-615-70 and MC-615-70 for drop ceilings to prevent the speaker from falling in case of fire or ceiling tile malfunction. The bracket is designed to catch on either side of the suspended-ceiling grid if the ceiling tile somehow gives way. Other features include a UL-listed fireproof rear enclosure and built-in seismic strap eyelets to accommodate seismic straps to meet building codes.

Suggested retail pricing for the MC-615-70 is $299 each and the A-615-70 is $179 each. Both are now shipping.
