LCD TV Meets Desktop PC in Sony’s New All-In-One Print E-mail
Friday, 21 October 2005
Sony is bringing performance and entertainment to even the smallest of spaces with a new all-in-one desktop PC. The VAIO VA TV-PC combines a full-featured computer with an LCD TV in one package that will retail for approximately $2,000. The new TV-PC sports a 20-inch display with Sony's original XBRITE™ LCD technology for vivid colors and crisp, clear images. Consumers can watch live TV or record their favorite programs with personal video recording and a DVD+R Double Layer/DVD+RW drive. TV watching and DVD playback are further enhanced by the company’s Sound Reality™ technology and a 2.1 channel speaker system.

As a PC, the VA series is supposed to provide powerful computing performance whether it is used for productivity tasks or editing high-definition video. An open bay gives it room to grow too by accepting an additional hard drive. All of this is packed into a silver and black chassis with a floating display and easily accessible optical and flash memory drives, front and center.

"We're continuing a tradition with our all-in-ones by proving that a desktop does not have to be a tower to be powerful," said Mike Abary, vice president of VAIO product marketing for Sony Electronics in the U.S. "The VA gives you a high quality TV experience without letting you forget it's a PC."

The connections include analog audio and video inputs, a multi-card flash memory reader, i.LINK (IEEE 1394) and multiple USB ports make file transfer easy and flexible. While there are no digital outputs, an integrated 802.11 b/g wireless LAN provides Internet connectivity to limit cable clutter.
