It is hard to remember a television show that has captured the attention of American viewers more than HBO’s The Sopranos. Jaded Hollywood execs and power players, line up to leave a playmate laden party at the Playboy Mansion because “The Sopranos are on in 45 minutes.”
TiVos nationwide are set for a Sopranos Season Pass while fans also scurry on-line to preorder full seasons of the show on DVD. In Los Angeles, DVD stores like Virgin and Tower actually sell out of the season long boxed sets during the holiday season. The Sopranos are more than a trend, they are the most exciting thing to come out of New Jersey since Bon Jovi and the absolute best thing currently on TV.
Now The New York Times and e-online.com are reporting the producers of The Sopranos are talking about plans for a feature film as a next step after, creator, David Chase, leaves the show after the fourth season. HBO has the rights to continue the show but Sopranos stars like James Gandolfini, Lorraine Bracco and Edie Falco say when Chase leaves – so do they. But could they coerced to do a feature film? Most likely, yes. With character development this rich, excellent writing and such a loyal and large US fan base, a Sopranos movie would be an almost certain home run.
