NBC and the NFL made headlines across the internet when they announced that Super Bowl XLVI would be streamed online. The planned coverage was impressive, giving fans access to different commentary, alternate camera angles and more. It brought in 2.1 million unique viewers which certainly made the folks that put it on very happy indeed.
Of course, people watching the game didn't necessarily get the same joy out of it. Many fans have reported that the stream itself was lacking in video quality, but those that didn't have access to the game on TV didn't have much of a choice. The real letdown was in the alternate angles and commentary, which were made to supplement the game experience. These channels lagged as far as a minute behind the game, rendering them essentially useless. Despite the problems, the popularity of the stream is certainly a good indicator that we'll be getting it again next year. Hopefully the quality improves!
