Amidst rumors of a potential Sopranos feature film, The New York Times reported Sunday that David Chase agreed to undisclosed terms with HBO to do a fifth season of the highly acclaimed Mafia drama. Many in the cast of The Sopranos publicaly said that they would not continue without Chase at the helm.
With HBO benefiting from unprecedented popularity for their pay channel service and making unexpected profit from the robust sales of The Sopranos Season One, Two and Three on DVD, they were unlikely to miss the opportunity to do another season of New Jersey’s first family. Even if it cost them a pretty penny. Season Four of The Sopranos starts airs September 15, 2002.
