Ultra High Definition TVs are just plain exciting. Sure they cost as much as a decent sub-compact car, there's no native 4K source material for them unless you have a 4K camera, and since the sets are new to the market early adopters are signing up for an experience full of the kinds of issues that get ironed out in later iterations. That doesn't mean the 84LM9600 is anything less than awesome.
At Video & Audio Center in Lawndale, California, people lined up around the building to get a look at the brand new UHDTV from LG. It's the first store to carry the set in the US and they managed to move six of them out the door within the first two hours. MSRP on the 84LM9600 is $19,999 but they sold at retail for a significantly lower $16,999. The quick sales of these sets could be an indicator of good things for UHDTV, but it's still far too early to say whether the tech is going to take off.
