It seems like we've been waiting forever for OLED TVs and more than a few folks have given up hope. Turns out we've reason to get excited again, as LG is launching a 55" OLED television this May. Even better – it's not ridiculously expensive. It's not as cheap as a similarly outfitted LCD or plasma, but at $7,900 quite a few early adapters should be able to drop the dime on this one.
LG boasts that their new 55EM9600 has a response time of 0.1 microseconds – so pretty much instant. Consider that most sets are around 6 milliseconds in response time and that a millisecond is 1,000 microseconds. Point is, it's fast. It's also just 4mm thick and weighs in at 16.5 pounds. LG is planning to showcase the sets at Cannes and start pushing hard to the consumer afterwards.
