The Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy announced today that they've selected LG to lead the way in creating a flexible OLED screen for manufacture by 2017. Initially the screen will be used for commercial purposes, but there's no telling what kind of applications we'll see for consumers. A fully OLED wrapped cell phone? Projector style OLED displays that roll up when not in use? There are a lot of possibilities here. The desire to create a flexible OLED is a part of Korea's Future Flagship Program, which aims to not only continue advancing Korea in technology fields but to create jobs and, of course, keep money flowing in. |
