It's been a long while since a 'Saturday Night Live' spinoff ended up as a good movie, but from early reviews, this one looks promising. The sketch is essentially a quick satire of 'MacGyver,' but the movie spoofs a wide range of action flicks.
Will Forte gets the lead in this one as MacGruber himself, and Kristin Wiig co-stars. It's also got Val Kilmer, Ryan Phillippe, plenty of SNL stars and a few surprises. While the ratings are solid right now, it doesn't appear to have been screened for critics, which is normally a bad sign. For a comedy, it could go either way.
Shrek Forever After
It's been nine years since the first 'Shrek' film came out and since then we've seen two more feature length films, a few spinoffs, videogames, CDs and even 'Shrek the Musical.' 'Shrek Forever After' is the fourth feature film and its age is starting to show.
Generally poor reviews are unlikely to affect the film's box office take, but as Bill Goodykoontz of the Arizona Republic writes: "Shrek the Third made more than $322 million. Why kill the goose that laid the golden egg? Because it's time."
