It’s a good week to be a movie fan. Only two movies are opening as wide releases. One is a comedy intended for adult audiences, one is a movie meant for families, and that’s usually a pretty bad sign. Movies that come out with no competition aren’t typically the best films, but this week there’s a big exception.
Hot Tub Time Machine (our review) There are movies that tackle intensely important material and demand to be taken seriously. This isn’t one of them. It’s a hilariously self aware comedy starring Jon Cusack and directed by the man behind “Grosse Point Blank” and “High Fidelity”, two of Cusack’s best films. It’s a screwball comedy, and it knows it. How to Train Your Dragon (our review) March is Jay Burachel’s month. “She’s Out of My League” opened just two weeks ago, and “How to Train Your Dragon” is opening this weekend to rave reviews. It’s a fun animated tale of a boy, a dragon, and a hilarious group of Vikings. No one is calling it the next great film, but it’s difficult to find anyone with much bad to say about the latest Dreamworks 3D extravaganza. Also Opening This Week Bluebeard (Limited) Ca$h Calvin Marshall Chloe Dancing Across Borders Dream Boy Eclipse Godspeed Harimaya Bridge Just Say Love Lbs. Manuela and Manuel Trouble with Terkel |
