Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Based on the book series of the same name, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” may be the best bet in theaters this week. It’s a story of one boy’s attempt to survive one of the most terrifying ordeals in any boy’s life – middle school. As Roger Ebert puts it, “It isn't as good as A Christmas Story, as few movies are, but it deserves a place in the same sentence.”
Though the concept is fairly unique – repo men taking back transplanted organs that weren’t paid for – “Repo Men” quickly turns into a generic chase film. It’s so over the top violent that it seems like parody and it’s surprisingly poorly played by some otherwise wonderful actors. Jude Law, Forest Whitaker and Live Schreiber all in the same movie should spell brilliance, but it ends up dull.
What is it about Gerard Butler that makes him want to do films he’s clearly not meant to be doing? He was brilliant in 300, fit the part perfectly in RocknRolla and he was even decent in the otherwise disappointing Gamer. If there’s one place he doesn’t belong, it’s a romantic comedy. Bounty Hunter is as bad as they come.
