This week in the theaters, Matt Damon goes all Jason Bourne with limited success, and two supporting actors (including one very popular vampire) try their hands as leading men.
Green Zone The similarities to the Bourne trilogy aren’t just a coincidence. “Green Zone” stars Matt Damon and is directed by Paul Greengrass, who directed both “The Bourne Supremacy” and “The Bourne Ultimatum.” What might come as more of a surprise is the comparisons to “The Hurt Locker”, which took home the Oscar for best picture. It’s definitely worth seeing if you’re a fan of either film, but don’t expect anything groundbreaking. She's Out of My League Jay Baruchel has been a favorite of mine for a long time. He starred in “Undeclared”, Apatow’s follow-up to “Freaks and Geeks”, and he was one of the funnier characters in his limited roles in “Knocked Up” and “Tropic Thunder”. It won’t be the best comedy of 2010, but Burachel holds his own in one of the funnier movies to come out in recent months. Our Family Wedding You know what was a great movie? “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner.” You know what movie’s bad? Every single attempt to remake it as a comedy. In this one, a black groom marries a Latino bride. It stars, among others, Oscar winner Forest Whittaker, who should really know better. In Roger Ebert’s review he opines that three cake fights is just too many. Remember Me If “Our Family Wedding” is a comedic take on a great drama, then “Remember Me” is just the opposite. Robert Pattinson (of Twilight fame) plays Tyler, a James Dean like character. Tyler gets hassled by a local policeman and so dates his daughter with the intent of dumping her as revenge. It sounds a lot like a comedy, but it’s a drama set against the backdrop of 9/11. Needless to say, it’s not the best. |
