Bill Hecht may not be a household name, but your home theater wouldn't be complete without him.  Hecht, who passed away on September 12th, is the man responsible for the creation of the soft dome tweeter in 1967.  Since then, the soft dome tweeter has become the most often used type in the industry.

Hecht spent several years working in the projector industry, but during a strike he branched out on his own to hand make speakers.  He created one speaker a week, which he sold at a local hi-fi shop, eventually earning a reputation that garnered him the job of creating the first Fisher loudspeaker – the XP-1.  Hecht is also the founder of United Speaker Systems, which is responsible for the design and manufacture of many of the speakers sold by large companies today.
