35 Percent of Households Plan to Buy Home Audio This Year

If you're anything like me, you've got plenty of friends and family who just don't get audio. They've got big beautiful televisions, but are more than content to listen to them through the built-in 10 watt speakers. Watching a movie at their place can be a truly unsatisfying experience.

But there's a bit of refreshing news. According to the latest survey from MarketSource 35 percent of households interviewed said that they were either likely or definitely planning to purchase home audio gear by the end of the year.

The majority of those consumers, 53 percent, said that improving music playback was one of their key concerns. 39 percent said that they'd be adding surround sound to their video experience.

Speakers topped the list of components that people planned on purchasing, which shouldn't come as much as a surprise. Preamplifiers came in second place, which caught me by surprise.

Price was the main reason cited for not buying home audio products. 34 percent of those that responded either had a tabletop stereo system or iPod dock that they felt was sufficient, and 22 percent said that the products are too complicated to set up or to use. Versatility seems to be important as well. 31 percent of all those that responded said that they were most interested in a multi-room audio system.
