D-Box Adds Third Movement to New Seating Simulator Print E-mail
Tuesday, 01 November 2005
Motion simulators can immerse viewers in the home theater experience by synchronizing motion with onscreen action and sound. Now D-Box hopes to make the experience even more realistic with the Quest X3ME by adding a motion to a third, vertical axis.

The new seat replicates the front/back, left/right and up/down motion of the Odyssee, the company’s more expensive flagship product using three SynDrive motorized Actuators. Two Actuators are mounted in the front arms of the chair with a third one in the rear center delivering up to two Gs of acceleration and 1.5 inches of vertical travel (almost twice as much as the previous model). The Quest X3ME can be controlled via the Series 3 340c Kinetron controller or PC3 Motion Controller Interface (MCI) software. Both include D-Box’s F/X Motion Code Volume 4 with 100 titles and offer Internet subscription updates and additional volumes of 100 titles can be purchased for $250 each.

The chair features leather upholstery and a two-stage motorized recliner mechanism. Suggested retail price is $10,000 for the chair, $799 for the PC3 Motion Controller, $2,999 for the Kinetron Controller.
