NHT (Now Hear This) will soon ship its new Super Audio™ line of high end/high value speakers. Originally labeled the Mega Series when first announced at the CEDIA Expo 2000, the new Super Audio models build upon the value of their predecessors by offering sonic improvements and a new look while staying consistent to the NHT sound.

Super Audio
NHT’s Super Audio loudspeaker selection features enhanced driver response, featuring a low distortion/high power 1inch aluminum dome tweeter and high-excursion polypropylene woofers that deliver deeper, more realistic sound staging with greater bottom end and a smoother overall response.

Along with a new technical design, the Super Audio modernizes the traditional NHT look with rounded edges, and eight layers of piano black lacquer for a deep, high-gloss finish. Additionally, two of the models detailed below are available in white high-gloss finish.

The top-of-the-line ST4 (MSRP: $1,000/pair), a relative of the SuperTwo, builds on the original’s design with larger drivers and an 8" long throw, side firing, polypropylene woofer that generates bass down to 31Hz, rendering an outboard sub optional rather than mandatory. (Overall frequency response is 31Hz-22kHz +/- 3dB.)

This biampable three-way tower boasts a fluid cooled 1 inch tweeter, 6.5 inch long-throw mid-woofer and 8 inch woofer, providing detailed, articulate imaging that is associated with products costing hundreds more. The ST4, which stands
38"H x 8"W x 12"D, handles up to 200 watts maximum power and is packaged with a fully adjustable spike kit for tailored placement.

The two-way SB3 (MSRP: $600/pair), slightly larger than a typical bookshelf speaker but smaller than a tower (13"H x 8"W x 10"D), offers a wide frequency response, measured at 39Hz-22kHz +/- 3dB, making it the ideal performer for a wide range of software, from complex cinema soundtracks to an acoustic guitar solo. This exceptional sounding speaker employs the same drivers as the free standing ST4 tower, minus the side-loaded woofer design, offering exceptional audiophile-quality sound in a bookshelf speaker cabinet. Power handling reaches a hefty 175 watts, and the polypropylene woofer measures 6.5 inches.

One of NHT’s most popular models, the SuperOne, is now re-created as the SB2 (MSRP: $400/pair). Building on the reputation of the original, the SB2 features a 6.5" long throw polypropylene woofer, which, in conjunction with the 1" neodymium magnet structure tweeter, offers improved imaging and substantially better bass extension that belies its relatively diminutive size (11.85"H x 7.5"W x 8.75"D). Frequency response is measured at 51Hz-22kHz+/- 3dB, and recommended amplifier power is 15 – 150 watts. The SB2 is available in white as well as high-gloss piano black finish.

The compact SB1 bookshelf speaker (MSRP: $300/pair), packs a frequency response of 68Hz – 22kHz +/- 3dB into a space-efficient frame (10.25"H x 6.25"W x 6.75"D). Similar to other Super Audio models, the SB1, designed as the progeny of NHT’s venerated SuperZero, incorporates 1 inch fluid cooled aluminum dome tweeter with neodymium magnet structure, plus a 5.25 inch polypropylene woofer for audio reproduction that remains detailed and accurate, even when handling up to 125 watts of output. With bass response improved beyond the limits of its predecessor, the SB1 conforms to the Dolby Digital surround specification of 80Hz cutoff. Similar to the SB2, it is available in either white or high-gloss piano black finish.

With multi-channel music recordings becoming more prevalent in the marketplace, NHT is introducing the center channel SC1 (MSRP: $300), featuring two 4.5 inch long throw woofers and a 1 inch metal dome tweeter. Designed for maximum accuracy when playing either music or digital video soundtracks, the SC1 offers a frequency response of 78Hz – 22kHz, +/- 3dB, and handles up to 150 watts of amplifier power. The SC1 measures 5.63"H x 16.54"W x 6.63"D.

Rounding out the Super Audio line is the SW10 powered subwoofer (MSRP: $500), featuring a vented design with a 10 inch polypropylene woofer and an internal 150 watt amplifier.

To afford audiophiles maximum control over its sonics, the SW10 includes an audio/video bass contour switch so listeners can tailor low frequency sound to the most accurate reproduction. The SW10’s overall response is 31Hz – 180Hz, +/- 3dB, and the unit measures 14.5"H x 14.5"W x 14.5"D.

All Super Audio models are scheduled to ship this month.
